Books that build your path to self discovery.
These books are not about empowerment, you are already powerful. They’re about shifting your mindset, elevating your consciousness through presence, and helping you discover who you really are – your true self.
Over the past 10 years I’ve read them all – some several times – and have seen their ideologies manifest in my own life. If you’re ready for an endless spiritual journey, try one of these. There is no destination to spirituality.
Seat of the Soul: Gary Zukav
If you are curious about your soul, not sure what a soul is or what role it plays in your life, Gary Zukav explains this better than anyone. I consider this book one of a handful that changed the trajectory of my life – from the inside out. He explains how when your life is in flow, it’s like riding behind the wake of a big ship sailing smoothly through the ocean. When you veer outside of the wake you’ll know – rough waters.
The Power of Now: Eckhart Tolle
I always thought my purpose was something tangible, or something specific that I needed to attain or move towards – until I read this book and learned that the only purpose I have is this present moment. As I write this, my purpose is to describe this book to you in just a few words. Meaty read, but stick with it.
A Return to Love: Marianne Williamson
Marianne has spent her life studying the principles of a book called A Course In Miracles, which attempts to help people attain spiritual enlightenment. In short, she describes how there are only two emotions – love and fear – and everything stems from them. We are either moving towards love or towards fear and they cannot coexist. It’s a fascinating read and changed that way I see everything – especially being able to identify fear.
A New Earth: Eckhart Tolle
This is another book by Eckhart Tolle, and for me it was easier to digest than Power of Now. Rather than try to explain what it’s about – I’ll quote something I underlined in the book. “All that is required to become free of the ego is to be aware of it, since awareness and ego are incompatible. Awareness is the power concealed within the present moment. This is why we may also call it Presence. The ultimate purpose of human existence, which is to say, your purpose, is to bring that power into this world.”
The Book of Awakening: Mark Nepo
I kept this book on my nightstand for years and read a passage every morning or night. It’s full of short stories laid out in calendar year format – one for each day of the year. They are profound and go something like this – “And just as fish can’t see the ocean they live in, we can’t quite see the spirit that sustains us.” – Mark Nepo
